Mezzola is a typical stone-built Tuscan farmhouse, located on an estate producing Chianti wine, only 1 kilometre from Cerbaia and 18 kilometres from the centre of Florence. Until a few years ago, it was the home of the owner, an antique dealer, who restored and furnished it for family use. The interiors of the house are very comfortable and furnished with antiques. The living area is particularly spacious, with a big living room and kitchen, opening to a furnished courtyard where outdoor meals can be enjoyed. In the bedrooms on the first floor air conditioning is available at extra cost. The location of the house is ideal, not only for exploring the surrounding Chianti area, but being less than ten minutes from the two highways connecting Florence to Siena and Pisa, it is possible to visit these wonderful Tuscan cities in less than one hour’s drive. The housekeeper lives at the back of the house in a separate apartment.

The villa provided an adventure in a setting you would not experience staying in a hotel. The views were exceptional. The rooms were comfortable. A large group has plenty of room to relax. The pool, large dining room and living room provided a great area to visit in the evenings about your adventures during the day. This is not a luxury hotel where the plumbing is quiet and efficient or the beds plush. This is a charming, aging villa tucked away in rolling hills. It is a true treat to experience a dinner prepared by Alessandra on your last night - she is a genius in the kitchen! I thought we would have fresh towels during the stay. If I could do better I’d replace the towels during the stay - using the same bath towel for a week was not acceptable. I asked Pascal if there would be toilet paper - he said there should be some on the arrival (it made it sound like you had to bring your own, which I did, it was not needed - what I needed was to bring another towel.) The water pump went out one day and we had no water overnight. Alassandra tried to get the service fixed but a National Holiday made this difficult. Not being able to take a shower after a day of site seeing and swimming in the sea was frustrating. It was a great experience and I'm VERY glad I went. Next time I would choose something a little more modern. The location and views were exceptional.
Two families gathered for a wonderful Tuscan retreat. This villa is even better than the photos depict. Allessandra is a perfect hostess and she is a great cook too! When we come back to Mezzola, I will remember to bring my own mosquito repellent and pillows...which is easy enough to do. Mezzola is remote enough to make you feel lost but close to Florence and the best cappucino in Italy at the Jolly Cafe in Cerbaia. Thank you for a memorable vacation.
