A savage escape: South West Sardinia

Porto PinoGorgeous pine forests,  romantic white dunes, amazing pink flamingos and crystalline waters.  Like on the set of a “Blue Lagoon” style movie,  this wonderful area of Sardinia offers a real shelter from the rest of the world.

Porto Pino, a nice location in the area taking the name from the several Pine forests all around, gives you the chance of coming back to the world for a moment, when you are tired of being cut away (provided that you will..). It offers a small but nice touristic port, amenities and beautiful walks along the coast. But the real attraction is of course the natural side.  Lovely beach coves among a rich Mediterranean scrub peer out from an otherwise interrupted green and blue landscape.  Large ponds just across the white dunes, lived by beautiful pink flamingos add a gentle, poetic touch to the wildness dominating around.

DSC_0702If you are already dreaming of being there, just go a bit further and decide to stay in Casa dei Lentischi.  The name comes from “lentisk”,  an evergreen shrub or small tree with dark green leathery leaves, of which the exteriors of the house are overflowing.  The interiors are intentionally unpretentious, reflecting the wild character of the surrounding nature, with a smart  touch.  The owner is an architect and her husband is an art historian and all around it is possible to get a glimpse of their passion through paintings and different works of art.

FlamingosNo matter who you are, you will soon forget your present life while sitting on the outdoor terrace enjoying sea views peering out from prickly pears and green bushes, or simply watching an hypnotic sunset.
